Airbus announced a flying car concept beginning last year. They revealed their concept as a Pop.Up transport system, consisting of three detachable modules: a passenger pod, a quadcopter which attaches to the passenger pod, and a module with wheels for ground transportation. The project is called Vahana and is managed by the Vahana Team at A³. 2018 Marked success for them as their first full scale aircraft had a successful flight.

The Vahana Aircraft, Airbus's full scale aircraft, dubbed Alpha One, took to the sky at 8:52AM on January 31, 2018 in Pendleton, Oregon. The fully self-piloted aircraft reached a height of 5 meters before descending safely. The flight lasted for about 53 seconds, and a second flight was completed the following day with attendance of representatives from the FAA.

The Vahana project developed at A³ is aimed to fill the growing need for urban mobility. Their goal is to "democratize personal flight" by using the latest and best technology.
“In just under two years, Vahana took a concept sketch on a napkin and built a full-scale, self-piloted aircraft that has successfully completed its first flight,” said their project executive Zach Lovering.
