President Jacob Zuma was given the chance to escape prosecution, but only if he turns against the Guptas and admits criminal wrongdoing.

This is according to Sunday Times, which stated that Zuma is being offered the deal to avoid state capture charges. According to the report Zuma and Cyril Ramaphosa are secretly negotiating this deal.
It is said that top ANC members are urging for Zuma to step down and let Cyril Ramaphosa take his place as president.
ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte has other plans. She insisted that Zuma will stay and must not step down in 2018 - she wants no government shake-up.
No legal fees for Zuma.
The Sunday Times stated that to define the terms of Zuma's no prosecution deal will require involvement from the NPA. It also requires Zuma to help police and the NPA to prosecute the Guptas and his son Duduzane.
If prosecuted - it is reported that Zuma wants his legal costs to be covered by the state. This could be related to non-state-capture legal matters, including corruption charges, which Zuma could face.
