Jacob Zuma just resigned: "I have taken the decision to resign with immediate effect".

His resignation comes just over a year shy of him completing his term in office. The ANC announced the NEC's decision to recall Zuma this week, in the ANC caucus meeting on Wednesday they said that they will vote him out in a vote of no confidence in Parliament on Thursday if he does not resign.
Zuma had been involved in a serious few scandals during his time in office, some of these include allegations of the so-called Spy Tapes saga, state capture, and the Nkandla fiasco.
After losing support from his party's members and having the NEC recalling Zuma, it is clear that Zuma had no other choice but to resign.
Zuma feels that the way the ANC had treated him during this process had been a bit unfair as there was discussions before the recall of him staying in office and have Ramaphosa take more responsibility.
Rand strengthening: After the news of Wednesday's deadline was revealed, the rand strengthened to a two-and-a-half-year high of R11.79
After Zuma resigned the rand continued to show growth to the Dollar, Pound, and Euro.
