“The armed robbers abandoned two of the vehicles they were travelling in, in close proximity to the scene, leaving the deceased suspect in one of the cars before hijacking another vehicle and fleeing the scene,” said Tebogo Magoro, ER24’s Communication Officer.
Gauteng police have released a statement following a fatal shootout with several armed robbers in Ferndale. “Police recovered a total of three high calibre firearms, two magazines with live ammunition, as well as three vehicles suspected to have been used in the commission of the crime,” reads the statement.
When suspects are apprehended, they will face charges of cash-in-transit robbery, armed robbery, attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and carjacking.
The suspects are still at large and police has urged the public to come forward with any information regarding the incident and the whereabouts of the suspects.
“Police are appealing to members of the public to assist with information on the identity or whereabouts of the suspects by reporting to their nearest police station. The suspects are heavily armed and therefore very dangerous, so people should not confront them but rather report to the police.”
