Behind the R1 billion a year Gupta plan.

The Gupta's conspired plans to collect as much as R1 billion a year from government health contracts, the City Press reports.

Behind the R1 billion a year Gupta plan.

The cunning plans were to serve for a massive private health centre in Dubai. After seeing documents related to the plot, and speaking to employees at the Gupta-linked companies involved, the paper reported its findings: According to the paper the Gupta's idea was to secure lucrative government contracts in all provinces, where the SA government would pay up to R950 per patient treated.

Seems benevolent doesn't it? Digging deeper shows quite the opposite. The company involved - Gupta-linked Mediosa - were to take R650 of every R950 paid per patient for healthcare services and funnel it into the family’s accounts in Dubai. Article continues after competition ad below.

Mediosa already has two contracts with government in Free State and North-West, these contracts were awarded without any tender process said the paper. Mediosa was targeting other provinces as well however, with the plan to have contracts in place worth R950 million a year.

The Gupta's big Money Castle plan seems to have been modeled with sand as it slowly washed away after civil groups and certain politicians, both in and outside of government, put pressure on the state to investigate the sordid network of patronage, kickbacks and theft.

While the brothers' business have been blacklisted by South Africa’s banks, they are subject to several investigations, some of which are criminal cases. SAP and KPMG, and other multinational companies, took several hits due to their interactions with the family. Any business who has been found linked to the family is coming under heavy scrutiny.

According to the City Press, the Mediosa contracts are now under threat, following its investigations and revelations that tenders were awarded irregularly.
