Google recently announced that they are to launch a third-generation Tensor Processing Unit (TPU). It is said to have much higher Artificial Intelligence (AI) performance.

The new processing unit was announced at the company's Google I/O event in Mountain View, California on 8 May 2018, by Sundar Pichai, Google CEO.
What are these "chips" and what do they do?
These chips are Tensor Processing Units and they are designed to provide efficient and smooth flowing performance for artificial intelligence applications.
Google.Inc has been using these TPU chips in their data centres since 2015 to power a various range of their AI-based applications.
How is the new TPU chip better?
Pichai said the new chips will be eight-times faster than the previous generation and have required Google to implement liquid cooling in its data centres for the first time.
Will a simple Google search be affected by this?
With STELLENBIZ's sound knowledge of search engines we can say that this will definitely improve future search queries thrown at Google. The faster and more efficient performance means that the AI applications can adapt and learn quicker to provide the content searched for. We are excited to see how Google's image learning software performs with the upgraded TPU, and if there is a significant difference or not.
